Another Book Recommendation

In my last post I shared with you a special book which was read to the 5th grade class during the graduation program by a School Board member.  That jogged my memory of another wonderful book also read to another 5th grade class graduation.

A few years ago our grandson Dillon graduated from the same Middle School.  During his graduation program,  the school principal read the Dr. Seuss book,  "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"  It is such a wonderful book that I wanted to tell you about it,  just in case you have not heard of it.

Amazon says:   "Dr. Seuss's wonderfully wise graduation speech is the perfect send-off for children starting out in the world, be they nursery,  high school,  or college grads! With his trademark use of humorous verse and illustrations, Dr. Seuss addresses the ups-and-downs life presents while encouraging readers to find the success that lies within them all."

I love this book and enjoy reading it to the grandchildren.

Here is an excerpt from the beginning of the book:

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own.  And you know what you know
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
You'll look up and down streets.  Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street ............

Dr. Seuss published 46 books in all,  including "The Cat in the Hat,  Green Eggs and Ham,"  plus the wonderful "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."    He wrote and illustrated,  "Oh! The Places You'll Go"  back in 1990.   Unfortunately, this was the last book Dr. Seuss wrote before his death the following year.

Dr. Seuss has been one of the most popular children's book writers in the US.  Not only did he write the Dr. Seuss books, but he did a lot of his own illustrations.

Some things are worth sharing and I wanted to be sure to tell you about this special book.  Thanks for stopping by and I wish you happy days wherever you may be.
